These are recommended share houses where the bathroom has a tub you can fill and soak in. That is worth stating plainly, because it is not the default. A great many share houses in Japan are fitted with shower rooms only, and even where a tub exists it is shared, so the real question is not whether the house has one but whether it will be free at the hour you want it. Knowing that in advance keeps you from reading a feature into a listing that never claimed it.
Count the bathrooms, then look at the hours
How crowded a bathroom feels comes down to a ratio rather than a fixture. Ask how many bath and shower rooms serve the number of residents, and whether the shower rooms sit apart from the room with the tub. Many houses set hours during which the tub may be filled, and some run a booking sheet or a message group for turns. Find out how long one person may hold the room and how late the final slot of the evening runs.
Ask who cleans it and when the water changes
A shared tub runs on agreements as much as on plumbing. Cleaning may rotate among residents or sit with the management company, and the water may be drained after each person or kept warm through the evening for everyone in turn. Where the bath has a reheating function, the second arrangement is more likely, so ask how this particular house handles it. While you are asking, ask about the size of the tub as well, since soaking feels quite different in one you can stretch out in.
What you need also depends on how often you plan to use it. A soak every night and a soak on a Sunday afternoon place very different demands on one shared bathroom. Picture the hour you usually get home, then picture the bathroom at that hour.
Photographs show the tiles and the shape of the tub. They do not show the queue. Asking how the room is used on an ordinary weekday evening fills in the part the pictures leave out. It is a small question, and the answer decides whether the tub becomes part of your routine or something you end up skipping.

What to check for this kind of house
When you send an inquiry, ask for four things: the number of bath and shower rooms, the hours in which the tub may be filled, whether a turn has to be booked, and who handles the cleaning. If you get home late, name your usual hour and ask whether the bath is available then. A general answer about evening use will not tell you what you need.
At a viewing, look past the tub itself. Check how much room the changing area has, whether there is anywhere to leave a towel and toiletries, and how the space looks at the close of an ordinary day rather than after a deep clean. It is also worth asking how the house handles an evening when one person wants a long soak and another wants a five minute shower, because that overlap is where a shared bathroom either works or does not. Set the answer against how often you genuinely want a bath, and the choice tends to make itself.
